Sermorelin is a synthetic peptide sold as a white lyophilised powder — meaning freeze-dried — and needs cold storage from the moment it arrives. Keep it refrigerated at 2–8 °C and away from light.
What Is Sermorelin Peptide
Sermorelin is a 29-amino-acid chain. It is sold as sermorelin acetate, which means the peptide is paired with an acetate salt to keep it stable as a dry powder. The peptide itself is the active part. The acetate is the counterion that prevents clumping during freeze-drying and shipping.
Sermorelin Storage Temperature
Lyophilised sermorelin — the dry powder — should be stored at 2–8 °C. A standard laboratory refrigerator works fine. Do not freeze the dry powder; freeze-thaw cycles can damage the peptide structure even before you open the vial.
Keep vials away from light. UV exposure breaks down the peptide chain faster than temperature alone. A cardboard box or the back of a fridge shelf is enough.
Dry sermorelin stored correctly can remain stable for an extended period from the manufacture date. That window shrinks if the vial sits at room temperature for extended periods or gets exposed to humidity. Sermorelin draws moisture from the air readily, and water entering a dry vial can start degradation immediately.
Post-Reconstitution Storage
Once bacteriostatic water has been added, the rules change. Reconstituted sermorelin should stay at 2–8 °C. Some researchers note that degradation accelerates beyond the four-week mark.
A few practical points:
- Never freeze reconstituted sermorelin. Ice crystals can physically damage the peptide.
- Use bacteriostatic water, not sterile water. The benzyl alcohol in bacteriostatic water slows bacterial growth and extends the usable window.
- Maintain clean technique each time a vial is accessed. Every needle introduction is a potential contamination event.
- Store the reconstituted vial upright in the refrigerator, away from light.
Room temperature is not acceptable for extended storage of reconstituted peptides. A brief period out on a bench during a work session is generally acceptable. Leaving it overnight is not.
Sermorelin COA: What to Look For
A COA — certificate of analysis — is the lab report showing what is actually in the vial. A sermorelin COA should include at minimum:
- Identity confirmation — usually mass spectrometry (MS), which measures the molecular weight of the peptide to confirm it is sermorelin and not a different or truncated sequence.
- Purity result — usually measured by HPLC, a technique that separates the peptide from impurities and reports what percentage of the material is the target compound.
- Sequence confirmation — some COAs include amino acid analysis or sequencing to verify the full 29-amino-acid chain is intact.
- Moisture content — relevant for lyophilised peptides because high residual water shortens shelf life.
- Endotoxin testing — checks for bacterial contamination byproducts.
The COA should reference a batch number that matches your vial. A generic undated COA with no lot number tells you nothing about your specific product.
Sermorelin Purity
Sermorelin purity refers to the percentage of material in the vial that is intact, correctly sequenced sermorelin versus fragments, truncated chains, or synthesis byproducts. Research-grade sermorelin typically comes in at 98% purity or higher by HPLC.
Purity matters because synthesis byproducts are not inert. A peptide fragment with a slightly wrong sequence can interact with the target receptor differently — less effectively, not at all, or competitively. Lower purity means less of the intended compound and more of something unintended.
A result below 95% purity warrants further investigation. A result below 90% is a problem for research purposes.
The HPLC chromatogram on the COA should show a dominant single peak. Multiple peaks of similar height indicate a mix of compounds rather than a pure product.
Practical Summary
Store lyophilised sermorelin at 2–8 °C, away from light and humidity. After reconstitution with bacteriostatic water, do not freeze the solution. Read the COA before using any batch: confirm identity by mass spectrometry, check that purity is 98% or above by HPLC, and match the lot number to your vial.
