Kisspeptin-10 Peptide: Storage, Form and COA

Kisspeptin-10 storage conditions, physical form and what to check on a COA, including HPLC purity thresholds and the correct mass spec value of 1,302.6 Da.

Kisspeptin-10 is a short peptide used in laboratory research. Store the lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder below −20 °C, away from light and moisture. Once reconstituted, keep it at 4 °C and work through it within four weeks.

What Is Kisspeptin-10 Peptide

Kisspeptin-10 is the ten-amino-acid active fragment of a larger protein called kisspeptin, encoded by the KISS1 gene. The "10" in the name refers to the length: ten amino acids. The full kisspeptin protein has 145 amino acids, but the last ten at the tail end carry almost all of the biological activity at the receptor. Researchers work with this shorter fragment because it is easier to synthesise with high purity, and its receptor binding is well characterised.

Kisspeptin-10 is studied in laboratory settings for its role in neuroendocrine signalling pathways. Its properties at the receptor level are well documented, which makes it a useful reference compound for analytical work.

Physical Form

Kisspeptin-10 is sold as a white to off-white lyophilised powder. Lyophilisation means the peptide was dissolved in water and then freeze-dried under vacuum to remove virtually all the moisture. The result is a light, airy solid that is stable for long-term storage and easy to ship without a cold chain — provided the vial stays sealed and dry.

Typical vial sizes for research supply are 1 mg and 5 mg. The peptide is usually supplied as an acetate salt, which affects how you calculate the actual peptide content from the stated weight — something the COA will clarify.

Kisspeptin-10 Storage

Dry powder: Store sealed vials at −20 °C or colder. At this temperature, the powder is stable for 24 months or more. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles on powder you have not yet reconstituted — even though the peptide is dry, physical stress on the vial seal matters.

Reconstituted solution: Once liquid, store the vial at 4 °C in a standard lab refrigerator. Work through it within four weeks. Even in the fridge, peptides can degrade over time, so prompt use after reconstitution is good practice.

A few practical habits that help:

  • Keep vials in an opaque container or wrapped in foil. UV light accelerates breakdown.
  • Do not store near the fridge door. Temperature swings every time the door opens.
  • Label the vial with the reconstitution date, not just the lot number.
  • If you see cloudiness or visible particles in a reconstituted solution, set it aside and do not use it.

Reading a Kisspeptin-10 COA

A COA — certificate of analysis — is the test report that tells you what is actually in the vial. For kisspeptin-10, look for these four data points:

What to checkWhat it tells you
Purity by HPLCThe percentage of the sample that is kisspeptin-10; ≥ 98 % is standard for research supply
Molecular weight by mass specConfirms the correct sequence was synthesised; kisspeptin-10 is 1,302.6 Da
Peptide contentAccounts for water and salt in the powder; often 70–90 % of stated weight is actual peptide
Sterility or endotoxin (if present)Not always tested, but relevant depending on the intended application

HPLC stands for high-performance liquid chromatography — a technique that separates the peptide from impurities and measures each peak. Mass spec confirms the molecular weight to within a fraction of a dalton. If a COA only shows one of these, it is incomplete.

Kisspeptin-10 has a known molecular formula of C₆₃H₈₃N₁₅O₁₄, so the mass spec result should match 1,302.6 Da. If it does not, the sequence is wrong.

Keep the powder cold and sealed, refrigerate the solution after reconstitution, and work through it within a month. Check the COA for both HPLC purity above 98 % and a mass spec result matching 1,302.6 Da before starting any experiment.
