Janoshik Analytical: A Practical Guide

Third-party lab testing has become a baseline expectation in the research-chemical and peptide supply industry, and Janoshik Analytical is one of the names that appears most frequently on certificates of analysis across the space. Understanding what the lab actually tests, what its reports mean, and how it stacks up against alternatives helps buyers make more informed decisions about the materials they source.

What Is Janoshik Analytical?

Janoshik is a commercial analytical laboratory based in the Czech Republic. It offers contract testing services to businesses and individuals, and it has built a strong presence specifically in the peptide and research-chemical market because it accepts samples from individual vendors without requiring a corporate account or a minimum order volume. This low barrier to entry is a major reason why so many small and mid-size research-chemical suppliers use it.

The lab publishes results on a publicly accessible database, meaning anyone with a report number can verify a certificate of analysis (CoA) directly on the Janoshik website rather than relying on a PDF that could theoretically be altered.

What Janoshik Tests

Janoshik offers a menu of analytical techniques. The most relevant for peptides and small-molecule research chemicals include:

  • HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) – Measures purity by separating the compound of interest from impurities. Results are expressed as a percentage area under the curve (AUC).
  • Mass Spectrometry (MS) – Confirms molecular identity by measuring the mass-to-charge ratio of ions. Often run alongside HPLC as LC-MS.
  • UV Spectrophotometry – Useful for quantification in some contexts but less common as a standalone identity test.
  • Karl Fischer Titration – Measures water content, relevant for lyophilised peptides where moisture affects the integrity of the sample.
  • Amino Acid Analysis (AAA) – Hydrolyses the peptide and counts its constituent amino acids, providing an independent cross-check on sequence and quantity.

For most peptide orders, buyers will encounter one of two report types: a purity-only HPLC report, or a combined HPLC + MS report. The latter is meaningfully more informative because purity alone cannot confirm that the right molecule is present.

How to Read a Janoshik Report

Janoshik reports follow a consistent format. Here is what each section tells you:

FieldWhat It Means
Sample ID / Order NumberUnique reference; use this to verify on janoshik.com
Compound NameThe name submitted by the vendor — not independently verified
MethodThe analytical technique used (e.g., HPLC-UV, LC-MS)
Purity (%)Area percentage of the main peak; does not account for unknown co-eluting peaks
Found m/zMeasured mass-to-charge ratio from MS
Expected m/zTheoretical value for the stated compound
ConclusionLab’s pass/fail or identification statement

Purity Percentage: What It Does and Does Not Mean

A purity figure of 98% means that 98% of the UV-absorbing material eluting through the column was attributed to the main peak. This figure can be inflated if impurities do not absorb UV light at the chosen wavelength, or if the gradient method was not optimised for that specific compound. A high purity number is a positive indicator but not a guarantee of absolute compositional accuracy.

Mass Spectrum Confirmation

When an MS result is included, compare the "found m/z" to the "expected m/z" for the compound at a given charge state. For a peptide such as BPC-157 (molecular weight ~1419 Da), you would expect to see multiply charged ions such as [M+2H]²⁺ around 710.9 and [M+3H]³⁺ around 474.2. A match within ±0.5 Da at the relevant charge states strongly supports identity. A mismatch or missing ions is a serious red flag.

Verifying a Report Is Genuine

Because Janoshik hosts results on its own server, verification is straightforward. Navigate to janoshik.com, enter the order or sample number printed on the CoA, and confirm that the data displayed matches the document you received. Any discrepancy between the hosted data and the vendor-supplied PDF indicates the document has been tampered with.

How Janoshik Compares to Other Third-Party Labs

LabLocationPublic DatabaseAccepts Individual SendersTypical TurnaroundNotes
JanoshikCzech RepublicYesYes1–3 weeksDominant in EU peptide market
Colmaric AnalyticalsUSANoYes1–2 weeksPopular with US vendors; PDF reports only
Core Chem (formerly)USANoLimitedVariesLess active in retail market recently
Swiss AnalyticalSwitzerlandNoYes2–4 weeksHigher-tier services; higher cost

The public verification database is Janoshik’s clearest practical advantage. It shifts accountability: a vendor cannot simply fabricate a CoA and attach a plausible-looking PDF if buyers know to check the source.

Limitations to Keep in Mind

No third-party lab eliminates all risk on its own. Janoshik tests the specific sample submitted — a vendor could submit a high-quality reference sample while shipping inferior material to customers. Batch-to-batch consistency is only meaningful when testing accompanies every production lot. Buyers who source research chemicals should treat a Janoshik CoA as necessary evidence, not sufficient evidence, and weight reports that include both HPLC purity and MS identity confirmation more heavily than purity-only documents.

NXT Labs products are sold strictly as research chemicals for in vitro research, laboratory testing and analytical purposes only, and are not intended for use in any human or animal application.
